Dear Friend of ArtSpace,
You are getting this letter and the accompanying brochure and membership
form because, although you are on our general mailing list and therefore can
be presumed to be interested in our organization, you are not currently a
member of ArtSpace/Lima. I’m hoping to convince you to rectify that
situation.
Members are the lifeblood of ArtSpace. Although our funding comes in part
from grants and donations and in part from civic-minded sponsors, the
support of our members is primary. They generate needed funds for our
programming and, equally important, perhaps, they form a mutually
reinforcing support group for the arts and art education in the area. That’s
no mean thing. Without the sustaining energy and commitment of our
membership, ArtSpace would be an organization without an audience and, I
suppose, without a rationale.
I think you know that ours is an ambitious program. Our exhibition schedule
alone offers 18 different venues for local, regional, and national artists:
in the Ellen Nelson Gallery, in ArtZone, and in the St. Rita’s Mezzanine
Gallery. Under the Education rubric in our mission statement, we hold
quarterly classes for both kids and adults, staffed by teacher-artists who
are themselves award-winning in their respective fields. We also regularly
mount lectures and lecture series with art-centric subject matter, offering
Continuing Education credit to area art teachers.
And we do special events: the Rallies, of course, all summer long; the
recently concluded More Jazz at the Greenhouse at DeHaven’s and the upcoming
Buffett on the Beach (in January) in partnership with Carter’s Crusade; and
The Son of the Artist in the Film (our very successful film series hosted by
David Adams -- upcoming).
ArtSpace/Lima’s membership year runs concurrent with the calendar year. I
hope you can be persuaded to spend a part of that year enjoying the ArtSpace
programming as a member. Whatever level you choose, you can be sure that
your membership supports one of the oldest and most active arts
organizations in the area.
Best wishes for an art-filled New Year.
