The quote is from a
video interview which Dennis Wojtkievicz gave at the Opening Reception of
our recent exhibit, Still Life Now. When I first heard it, the hair
stood up on the back of my neck. Here was an artist with an international
reputation characterizing us in almost embarrassing terms. I will be the
last person to sell ArtSpace short. But even I could not have predicted or
expected such praise.
And, although I don’t
know if we deserve it, I do know that it sets the bar very high indeed for
our sense of ourselves, our goals, and our agenda. Because you have been a
loyal member of ArtSpace/Lima, you enter the equation in Dennis’s last
sentence: you do “appreciate what we have here,” and you have confirmed
that appreciation with your membership and your participation in our
programming. Thank you for having that faith in us.
Now, it’s time to
reconfirm by renewing your membership. As a non-profit, ArtSpace relies on
multiple sources for its funding: donations, contributions, and grants,
fundraisers like the Rallies and Jazz at the Greenhouse, and,
of course, memberships. As a member of ArtSpace, your membership fee and
your loyalty have been and continue to be one of the chief foundations on
which we base our programming.
As you consider your
commitment to the goals and mission of ArtSpace this year, I’m hoping you
will seriously think about advancing your membership category, from Member
to Family Membership, for instance, or from Family Membership to Donor.
And, if you can introduce a friend, a relative, or co-worker to the
pleasures and privileges of ArtSpace membership, all to the good.
Once again, thanks for
your past support, thanks in advance for your continuing support. We’ll do
everything we can to deserve it.
