ARTSPACE/LIMA OFFERS PROFESSIONAL
DEVELOPMENT
SOUP AND SALAD LECTURE
SERIES,
TOUR TO THE DAYTON ART
INSTITUTE
October 1, 2008,
Lima, Ohio: ArtSpace/Lima, in conjunction with the Ohio Arts Council and
The Lima City Schools, will offer “The Portrait,” a series of three Soup
and Salad Lectures with an overview of the development of the portrait in
western art and a specific focus on children’s portraiture. Lectures
will be held on Wednesday, October 8, 15, and 22. A light supper will be
served at 6:30 p.m.; lectures will start at 7:00 p.m.
Mary Ann Sullivan,
Professor Emerita of English and Art History Bluffton University, will
give a slide-lecture on “The Development of the Painted Portrait in
Western Art" on October 8; “The Self-Portrait and Portraits of Children"
on October 15; and “The Depiction of Children in Visual Art" on October
22. Individual lectures are $15.00 each; the price for all three is
$40.00. Art educators will be admitted free of charge. Art educators
may earn CEU's from Ashland University.
As a complement to
the Portrait lectures, Professor Sullivan will lead a visit to the Dayton
Art Institute on Sunday, October 26, for a docent-led tour of the current
exhibit, Children in American Art. The exhibit, on loan from the
Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, includes 46 paintings by some of the greatest
names in American painting of the 18th and 19th centuries, including
Stuart, Whistler, Homer, Cassatt, and Sargent. Cost of the tour is
$25.00, which includes lunch at the Café Monet and the docent.
Participants will meet at the main entrance to the museum at 12noon.
